If you’re reading this, you may be taking one or more blood pressure medications—or have been told you should. I’m here to tell you: high blood pressure is not a medication deficiency. It’s a signal from your body that something is out of balance.
I’m Dr. Jack Wolfson, cardiologist and founder of Natural Heart Doctor. I’ve helped thousands of people safely and naturally get off their blood pressure medications, and this guide outlines the exact steps to do just that.
Why You Need This
High blood pressure (hypertension) is a symptom, not a cause. Unfortunately, the mainstream medical system wants to mask that symptom with pharmaceuticals—ACE inhibitors, beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, and diuretics—without fixing the root problem. These drugs come with side effects like fatigue, dizziness, erectile dysfunction, and even increased risk of heart disease long-term.
If you want a drug-free future, it’s time to address the real causes—and that’s exactly what we’ll do in these 10 steps.
Your 10 Steps to Get Off Blood Pressure Meds
1. Eat Organic
Toxins in non-organic food (pesticides, herbicides, preservatives) drive inflammation and oxidative stress, raising blood pressure.
Organic food = cleaner arteries, less inflammation, better mineral balance. Prioritize:
- Organic vegetables and fruits
- Grass-fed meats
- Raw dairy
- Organic herbs and spices
2. Get Sleep
Poor sleep raises cortisol and adrenaline, driving up your blood pressure.
The solution: Sleep in sync with the sun. Get to bed shortly after dark and aim for 7–9 hours of quality, consistent sleep. Use blackout curtains and avoid screens at night. Look into mouth taping. Use organic bedding materials.
Bonus: better sleep = less need for meds.
3. Get Sunshine
Sunlight triggers nitric oxide release in the skin, which relaxes blood vessels and lowers blood pressure. It also boosts vitamin D, which reduces arterial stiffness.
Practice smart sun exposure:
- Morning sun resets your circadian rhythm
- Midday sun optimizes vitamin D
- Late afternoon sun calms the nervous system
- Avoid sunburn, but don’t fear the sun.
4. Eat Seafood and Pasture Raised Meat
Seafood is rich in omega-3s, which reduce inflammation, improve arterial flexibility, and lower blood pressure naturally.
Aim for wild-caught salmon, sardines, anchovies, and shellfish 4–5 times a week. These also provide magnesium, iodine, and selenium—nutrients that support healthy blood pressure.
5. Smart Supplements
There is plenty of evidence that many supplements can lower blood pressure. Actually hundreds of studies. But remember that supplements SUPPLEMENT all the other things on this document.
Here are some strategies and a link to a page that contains our recommended supplement protocol.
- Nitric oxide support: Food based nitrates in powdered form improve nitric oxide by one pathway. Amino acids like arginine, citrulline and taurine improve nitric oxide by a different mechanism using nitric oxide synthase.
- Magnesium and Potassium
- Probiotics
- Multivitamin- in this case, I am referring to bison organ supplements also contains the natural CoQ10 to support better blood pressure
- Omega 3- Not fish oil, but a full spectrum product like Wild Salmon Roe that contains omega-3 and everything else.
6. Get Active Outdoors
Movement is medicine. Regular exercise improves blood vessel elasticity, enhances nitric oxide production, and reduces stress—all of which lower blood pressure.
Aim for 30+ minutes a day of outdoor movement:
- Walks
- Hikes
- Swimming
- Gardening
- Playing with your kids or grandkids
7. Get Away from Toxins
Environmental toxins are silent blood pressure killers. Common culprits:
- Mold/mycotoxins from water-damaged buildings
- Plastics (BPA, phthalates)
- Air pollution (PM2.5)
- EMFs from electronics
Reduce your burden:
- Use air and water filters
- Fix mold issues ASAP
- Store food in glass, not plastic
- Turn off Wi-Fi at night
The cleaner your environment, the lower your pressure.
8. See the Right Doctors
Mainstream doctors often push meds as the only solution. Instead, work with practitioners who support natural healing:
- Chiropractors: Improve nervous system function, which directly influences BP. A study showed chiropractic lowered BP by 17/10.
- Holistic dentists: Remove toxic metals and treat gum disease, both of which drive inflammation and high blood pressure.
- Functional medicine providers: Help identify root causes and customize a natural protocol. (Work with us at Natural Heart Doctor!)
9. Find Your Happy
Chronic stress, anxiety, and unresolved trauma are major causes of high blood pressure. Your emotional well-being matters.
Support your nervous system with:
- Gratitude practices
- Meaningful relationships
- Laughter and joy
- Spiritual connection
Happy people have better blood pressure—without the meds.
10. Test, Don’t Guess
Okay, you are doing all of the above. Or maybe SOME of the above. How do you know if what you are doing is working? Well, normal blood pressure without pharmaceuticals would be one way to judge success. But if you want to do a deeper dive into your health status, or if your BP is not controlled despite your best efforts, consider the following tests as a stand alone OR together in panels- (groups of tests).
- Micronutrient
- Advanced cardiovascular analysis
- Intestinal Permeability
- Metals
- Molds
- Envirotoxins (BPA, glyphosate etc.)
The above can be found in one panel called CHAT. You can learn more HERE.
Also, you should test your home for water damage mold/bacteria. See this home test for mold/bacteria (#8 swiffer test).
