Apple Cider Vinegar: Magic for (Heart) Health?

Apple Cider Vinegar has been used for hundreds of years for medicinal and culinary purposes, but how does this substance really impact the body? Let’s dive into this magical potion…

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) 101

The origin of the word vinegar stems from the French words for “sour wine.” For ACV in particular, apples are crushed, yeast is added, and fermentation occurs. A secondary fermentation process occurs with the addition of bacteria and boom, there’s your apple cider vinegar.

Great, great…but how does it help my health?

Here’s where the magic is…ACV is an antioxidant, antimicrobial, lowers cholesterol, assists in blood sugar regulation, and may help with other health concerns such as cancer, skin conditions and weight loss.

  • Antioxidant: ACV appears to suppress obesity-induced oxidative stress by modulating the antioxidant defense system and preventing atherogenic risk. In other words, it reduces cardiovascular risk factors associated with obesity.
  • Antimicrobial: Antibiotic resistance is becoming more and more concerning in this day and age. According to research, ACV has antimicrobial effects on certain strains of bacteria. We know that infection which causes inflammation can compromise the cardiovascular system and there are bacteria out there which cause heart complications. The moral of the story is, the more proactive you are in taking care of yourself, the less reactive measures are needed.
  • Cholesterol/Blood Sugar Impact: This study indicates ACV reduces LDL levels and triglyceride levels, increases HDL levels, AND decreases HbA1c. All positive things for heart health.
  • Skin Conditions: ACV may enhance skin barrier functions by maintaining the pH level of the surface of our skin. Our skin is normally a bit acidic in order to prevent organisms from entering our bloodstream if this barrier is broken.
  • Weight Loss: There is scientific proof that ACV improves weight loss. Whether it is because it aids in digestion, increases the feeling of satiety, or improves blood sugar regulation, the consumption of acetic acid seems to have an overall positive impact on health.

My Recommendation

Remember, quality ALWAYS matters, that’s why I recommend Bragg’s Organic ACV . I trust it’s organic, non-GMO, unfiltered reputation and believe it provides us with all of the nutrient qualities mother nature intended.

A Word of Caution…

Apple cider vinegar can be corrosive to the enamel on your teeth. Always dilute when consuming. I recommend sprinkling it on a salad with olive oil or mixing with an ounce of water before a meal. It wouldn’t hurt to rinse or brush your teeth after consuming as well.

Thank you
