The 100 Year Heart Method

Our approach to cardiac longevity

Most Heart Care Starts Too Late

You can have "normal" cholesterol and still have a heart attack.

You can lower your blood pressure with medication and still never address why it was high.

You can pass a stress test and still have oxidative stress damaging your arteries every day.

That is the problem with most heart care.

It starts too late. It looks too narrowly. And it focuses on managing the evidence of cardiovascular disease instead of asking the deeper question:

Why is the cardiovascular system breaking down in the first place?

That is why we created the 100 Year Heart Method.

At Natural Heart Doctor, we do not chase cholesterol. We investigate the root causes of cardiovascular stress, remove what is damaging the body, and give the heart, blood vessels, mitochondria, and metabolism what they need to repair.

This is root-cause cardiology.

This is the path to a 100 Year Heart.

What Makes Natural Heart Doctor Different

Conventional Cardiology The NHD Method
Focuses on symptoms and numbers
Looks for root causes
Uses drugs and procedures as primary tools
Uses food, lifestyle, testing, supplements, mindset, and advanced therapies
Often waits until disease is advanced
Works upstream, before crisis occurs
Relies heavily on cholesterol, blood pressure, and basic imaging
Measures oxidative stress, inflammation, toxins, gut health, nutrients, hormones, genetics, and advanced cardiovascular markers
Treats the heart separately from the rest of the body
Treats the heart as part of the whole person

Both approaches have their place. There are emergencies where conventional cardiology saves lives, and we will be the first to refer when that is the right answer. But for the patient who wants to do more than wait, more than mask, and more than manage — there is a different path.

A Few Terms Worth Knowing

You will see these words throughout the rest of this page, and throughout your work with us. They are worth a moment.

Oxidative stress

The "rusting" process inside the body that damages arteries, mitochondria, cholesterol particles, and tissues over time. One of the biggest drivers of cardiovascular events.

Inflammation

The immune system's fire response. Short-term inflammation helps you heal. Chronic, low-grade inflammation slowly damages the cardiovascular system.

Lipoproteins

The particles that carry cholesterol and fats through your bloodstream. The number, size, and behavior of these particles tell us far more than your total cholesterol number.

Gut-heart axis

The connection between your digestive system, gut bacteria, immune signaling, toxins, inflammation, and cardiovascular risk. What happens in the gut does not stay in the gut.

The Six Pillars of the Method

Every patient we work with — from the executive who has never had a symptom to the patient three weeks out from a heart attack — is evaluated through the same six lenses. Each one matters. None of them work as well alone as they do together.

Eat Well Concept

1. Eat Well

Give the body the raw materials it needs to build healthy arteries, blood, hormones, and mitochondria.

Your genome has changed less than 0.02% in the last 40,000 years. Your food supply has been radically transformed in the last seventy-five. Used correctly, food can help the body repair, stabilize, and reduce many of the drivers of cardiovascular disease. Used incorrectly, food can contribute to the very conditions that damage the arteries.

We eat the way humans evolved to eat — organic vegetables and fruit, pasture-raised meat and eggs, wild-caught seafood, ancestral fats, and traditional whole foods that your great-grandmother would recognize.

What this means for you: You will focus on real food. You will remove industrial seed oils, refined sugar, processed grains, and chemically treated products. You will prioritize wild seafood, pasture-raised meats, organs, eggs, vegetables, fruit, fermented foods, and ancestral fats.

Live Well Concept

2. Live Well

Restore the daily inputs your heart was designed for: sunlight, movement, sleep, clean air, clean water, and less toxin exposure.

The body you were built to inhabit is an outdoor body. The body that modern life produces sits indoors under fluorescent light, sleeps next to a charging phone, breathes off-gassing air, and never touches the ground. The cardiovascular consequences are predictable and significant.

What this means for you: You will rebuild the foundations — eight or more hours of dark, screen-free sleep; daily sunlight on bare skin; regular movement; clean filtered water; and a home environment with fewer of the toxins that quietly drive hypertension, palpitations, and atherosclerosis.

Think Well Concept

3. Think Well

Address the stress, isolation, trauma, and mindset patterns that directly affect blood pressure, rhythm, inflammation, and healing.

You cannot supplement, exercise, or eat your way out of a toxic mental environment. Decades of research confirms what every traditional culture already knew: how you think, who you love, and whether your life has meaning directly affect how long and how well you live.

What this means for you: You will work with our team on stress regulation, relationship health, purpose, and the deeper psychological work that determines whether a clinical plan ever actually gets implemented.

Test, Don't Guess Concept

4. Test, Don't Guess

Measure the deeper drivers of cardiovascular risk instead of relying only on basic cholesterol numbers.

The standard lipid panel can provide some information, but it is incomplete. It often misses the deeper drivers of cardiovascular disease — particle behavior, oxidative stress, inflammation, lipoprotein(a), gut-derived toxins, nutrient gaps, mold exposure, and genetic risk markers most cardiologists never examine.

Consider three patients with the same diagnosis on paper:

  • One has high blood pressure because of sleep apnea, low magnesium, chronic stress, mold exposure, and insulin resistance.
  • Another has palpitations because of caffeine, mineral depletion, gut inflammation, hidden toxins, and poor sleep.
  • Another has arterial plaque because of oxidative stress, low omega-3 status, poor oral health, and heavy metal exposure.

The diagnosis may look the same. The root causes are completely different. That is why we test.

What this means for you: You stop guessing based on a basic lipid panel. You sit down with a comprehensive picture of your own cardiovascular biology — and a written plan built specifically on what your data shows.

Evidence-Based Supplements Concept

5. Evidence-Based Supplements

Use targeted nutrients, herbs, minerals, probiotics, and food-based supplements to support the body's repair systems.

Nobody is born with a statin deficiency. The pharmaceutical model — one symptom, one drug, indefinitely — is not a healing model. But even the cleanest ancestral diet no longer reliably delivers everything the cardiovascular system needs. Soils are depleted. Wild food is harder to source.

Our approach is food first, always. Pasture-raised organ meats are nature’s original multivitamin — liver, heart, and kidney delivering bioavailable B-vitamins, CoQ10, and trace minerals in the exact ratios the body evolved to use. Wild-caught seafood and salmon roe deliver omega-3s and phospholipid-bound nutrients no fish oil capsule can match. Emu oil — one of the most overlooked traditional foods on earth — provides fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K in a form the body recognizes immediately.

When food alone cannot fill the gap, we reach for clinically formulated supplements built on the same principles. Live, multi-strain probiotics to restore the gut-heart axis. Targeted detoxification protocols to support the liver, kidneys, and lymphatic system. And condition-specific stacks engineered for the cardiovascular issues we treat every day — designed to support healthy cholesterol particle behavior, healthy blood pressure, arterial plaque stability, and the root drivers of palpitations and arrhythmia.

What this means for you: You stop guessing based on a basic lipid panel. You sit down with a comprehensive picture of your own cardiovascular biology — and a written plan built specifically on what your data shows.

6. BioHacking Strategies

Add advanced therapies when appropriate to accelerate repair, detoxification, circulation, and recovery.

This is the domain of our biohacking and regenerative medicine team, led by Dr. Keith Smigiel — a nurse practitioner and doctor of chiropractic with more than two decades of clinical experience integrating regenerative therapies into root-cause care. Depending on the patient, we may incorporate therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), exosomes, EBOO (extracorporeal blood oxygenation and ozonation), IV nutrient infusions, peptide protocols, sauna, light therapy, and platelet-rich plasma injections. All of them are deployed strategically, on top of a solid foundation of nutrition, lifestyle, mindset, testing, and supplementation — never as a substitute for that foundation.

What this means for you: When the foundation is in place and your situation calls for it, you have access to the most advanced regenerative tools in modern medicine — under the care of a clinician who has spent decades integrating them safely.

Why the Six Pillars Work Better Together

Every patient we work with — from the executive who has never had a symptom to the patient three weeks out from a heart attack — is evaluated through the same six lenses. Each one matters. None of them work as well alone as they do together.

About Dr. Lauren Lattanza NMD, FACC

Dr. Lattanza Office Visit with Patient

As a Naturopathic Physician, I am trained to treat the whole person and get to the root cause of disease.

I went to Arizona State University where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a depth in physiology and minor in Spanish. After my undergraduate degree I was working on prerequisite classes towards medical school, which is when I came to learn that my values identified best with the principles of naturopathic medicine. I knew that I wanted to help patients identify the causes of disease and be able to offer treatments which would improve their health rather than simply treating symptoms.

I dedicated the next 4 years to the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona where I attained my Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine. I served as Class President all 4 years, Board of Trustees – Student Trustee, spoke as the Club President for our branch of Toastmasters, and was voted by my peers and attending physicians to earn the Outstanding Leadership Award for the Class of 2020. Throughout medical school I took it upon myself to work alongside MDs, DOs, chiropractors, and functional medicine practitioners in addition to naturopathic physicians.

As a Spanish speaking student, I was able to volunteer with community clinics around Phoenix and provide free healthcare to low-income families. Due to this combined exposure, I came to find my passion in treating cardiometabolic and digestive disorders that are all too common, yet largely preventable. I took the opportunity to learn the broad spectrum of healthcare so I can ensure that I am able to provide my patients with the best options.
