Medical imaging techniques such as X-rays and CT scans are sometimes necessary diagnostic tools, yet they also expose the body to ionizing radiation, which can cause DNA breaks and oxidative stress. If you’re facing an X-ray or CT scan, there are some supplements that can help protect your DNA, cells and organs by reducing radiation-induced damage and supporting natural repair mechanisms.
Remember, health starts with our 100 Year Heart Method of Eat Well, Live Well, Think Well.
On that foundation, here is a guide to the most effective supplements to consider before and after your scan, and at the end, my easiest protocol for you.
1. Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a well-known antioxidant that combats oxidative stress caused by radiation. Studies have shown that high doses of vitamin C can reduce DNA damage from X-rays and CT scans by neutralizing free radicals produced during radiation exposure. Taking vitamin C both before and after a scan can provide a protective effect on DNA.
2. N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC)
Glutathione is a critical antioxidant in the body, essential for detoxification and DNA repair. Radiation exposure can deplete glutathione levels, leaving cells vulnerable to oxidative damage. Supplementing with NAC, a precursor to glutathione, or glutathione itself can help maintain cellular defenses during X-ray and CT scans. (Inside our Gluta Boost below)
3. Curcumin
Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, has shown promising results in reducing oxidative stress from radiation exposure. By supporting cellular repair enzymes, curcumin helps protect DNA and enhances the body’s antioxidant defenses. This natural anti-inflammatory compound can be beneficial when taken before and after imaging procedures.(Inside our OptiLipid)
4. Melatonin
Melatonin is well known for sleep regulation, but it also has antioxidant properties that can support DNA repair mechanisms. Studies indicate that melatonin helps reduce DNA breaks and can be beneficial when taken around radiation exposure. High doses of melatonin, such as 100 mg, are recommended one hour before the scan to maximize protective effects.
5. Green Tea Extract (EGCG)
Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a potent compound in green tea, is known for its DNA-protective properties. EGCG has been shown to help counteract radiation-induced DNA damage, offering a natural defense against the oxidative stress from X-rays and CT scans.

6. Berberine (Inside our OptiLipid)
My Radiation Protocol:
- OptiLipid– 6 caps- 24 hours before, 2 hours before, and 24 hours after.
- Gluta Boost (NAC)– 1 tab, 24 hours before, 2 hours before, and 24 hours after.
- Melatonin– Take FIVE 20mg caps 2 hours before, 5 caps 24 hours after.
- Super C– 2 tabs- 24 hours before, 2 hours AFTER, and 24 hours after.
Bonus 1
Astaxanthin is a potent carotenoid that works as an antioxidant, reducing oxidative damage at the cellular level. Research suggests that astaxanthin can protect cells by scavenging free radicals produced by radiation and supporting DNA stability.
Eat around 4 oz. of wild salmon the day before, the day of, and the day after the scan.
You can also take 10 caps of our Wild Salmon Roe capsules the day before, day of, and the day after the scan. Continue with 6 caps per day indefinitely.
Bonus 2
Greens drinks, chlorella, and spirulina are known to have antioxidant and detoxifying properties that can offer protective benefits against radiation-induced DNA damage. Research on these supplements highlights their potential to reduce oxidative stress, chelate heavy metals, and promote cellular repair, making them particularly valuable for individuals exposed to radiation through X-rays, CT scans, or environmental sources.
1. Chlorella, a nutrient-dense green algae, has been studied for its ability to detoxify the body and boost antioxidant defenses. It contains chlorophyll, beta-carotene, vitamin C, and essential minerals that contribute to its protective effects.
2. Spirulina, another nutrient-rich algae, is packed with antioxidants, including phycocyanin, a powerful anti-inflammatory compound.
3. Greens Drinks. Greens drinks are typically formulated with a blend of nutrient-dense ingredients, including chlorella, spirulina, wheatgrass, and other antioxidant-rich greens. Some research indicates that greens drinks are excellent for preventing radiation damage.
Our organic powder mix is called Cardio Greens. 1 scoop in 8oz of water daily is recommended, but certainly for the day before, day of, and every day after the scan for at least a week.
