Most people ask the wrong question.

They ask, “What supplement lowers cholesterol?” “What supplement lowers blood pressure?” “What supplement cleans arteries?” “What supplement replaces my medication?”

But that is not how the body works.

The real question is this: What would the perfect heart supplement actually give the body?

Because your heart is not failing because it is missing a drug. Your arteries are not inflamed because of a deficiency of pharmaceuticals. Your mitochondria are not struggling because your body forgot how to function.

The body breaks down when it is exposed to too much bad stuff and not enough good stuff.

Bad food. Poor sleep. Lack of sunshine. Lack of movement. Toxins. Stress. Loneliness. Disconnection. Artificial light. Environmental chemicals. Poor oral health. Gut problems. Mold. Heavy metals.

Over time, those violations of Eat Well, Live Well, and Think Well show up as inflammation, oxidative stress, insulin resistance, high blood pressure, abnormal lipids, poor mitochondrial function, endothelial dysfunction, and eventually symptoms or diagnosis.

So the best heart supplement should not be designed to force a number down. It should be designed to nourish the heart.

What the Perfect Heart Supplement Would Look Like

If I were designing the perfect supplement for the heart, I would not start in a laboratory with synthetic isolates. I would start with nature.

The perfect heart supplement would come from real food. It would contain nutrients in forms the body recognizes. It would support mitochondria, cell membranes, blood vessels, oxygen delivery, detoxification, energy production, and repair.

It would not just contain one trendy ingredient. It would contain a full spectrum of nutrition.

The heart is an organ. So it makes sense that the best food for the heart would come from organs. That is why my answer is Kickstart My Heart.

Why the Heart Needs More Than One Nutrient

Your heart is one of the most energy-demanding organs in the body. Every day, it beats about 100,000 times. It never gets a vacation. It never clocks out. It requires constant mitochondrial energy, stable minerals, healthy fats, amino acids, antioxidant protection, and the raw materials needed to build and repair tissue.

This is why I am not impressed by most multivitamins. A lab-made multivitamin is often a collection of isolated nutrients thrown together in a capsule. That may look good on a label, but your body does not live off labels. Your body lives off food.

The heart needs nutrients that work together. Vitamin B12 is involved in red blood cell formation, DNA synthesis, and nerve function. B vitamins also intersect with homocysteine metabolism, which matters because elevated homocysteine is associated with cardiovascular risk.

Vitamin A helps the heart, lungs, and other organs work properly, and it is involved in immune function, growth, development, and cellular communication.

Selenium is needed for selenoproteins, including glutathione peroxidases and thioredoxin reductases, which help protect cells from oxidative damage. It is also important for thyroid hormone metabolism, which directly impacts energy, metabolism, and cardiovascular function.

Choline is required to make phosphatidylcholine, a major component of cell membranes. That matters because every heart cell, blood vessel cell, mitochondrial membrane, and nerve cell depends on healthy membrane structure.

This is the point most people miss. The body does not need a random pile of isolated ingredients. The body needs the full orchestra.

Why Kickstart My Heart Is My Favorite Heart Supplement

Kickstart My Heart is built around the idea that food is information. It is made from elk organs, including heart and other nutrient-dense organ tissues that provide the raw materials your body needs to support cardiovascular health.

This matters because organ meats are some of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet. Traditional cultures understood this. Hunters understood this. Animals in the wild understand this. When a predator takes down prey, the organs are often the first thing consumed. Why? Because organs are loaded with nutrition.

Kickstart My Heart gives your body nutrients from real animal organs, not synthetic lab-made substitutes. It supports the heart by giving the body what the heart is actually made from and what it actually uses.

The heart needs amino acids. The heart needs minerals. The heart needs B vitamins. The heart needs fat-soluble vitamins. The heart needs mitochondrial support. The heart needs the raw materials for repair.

That is why Kickstart My Heart is my foundation product. Not because it is a magic pill. Because it is real food.

The Best Supplement Does Not Replace the 100 Year Heart Method

Let me be very clear. No supplement replaces eating well, living well, thinking well, testing, and removing the causes of disease.

You cannot out-supplement bad food. You cannot out-supplement poor sleep. You cannot out-supplement chronic stress. You cannot out-supplement mold exposure. You cannot out-supplement a toxic lifestyle.

But the right supplement can help fill the gap between where you are and where your body needs to be. That is where Kickstart My Heart shines. It is not designed to chase one lab marker. It is designed to nourish the system that creates healthy markers in the first place.

When people ask me, “What is the best supplement for heart health?” I think about mitochondria. I think about blood vessels. I think about endothelial function. I think about oxidative stress. I think about thyroid function. I think about nutrient density. I think about whether the body has the raw materials to do the job. That is why my answer starts with Kickstart My Heart.

Special Mention: Wild Salmon Roe

If Kickstart My Heart is the land-based foundation, Wild Salmon Roe is the ocean-based companion. Wild Salmon Roe provides nutrients that are very hard to get from land foods alone, especially DHA, EPA, phospholipids, choline, astaxanthin, and fat-soluble nutrition.

Omega-3 fats EPA and DHA have been widely studied for cardiovascular health, and a large 2020 review found that increasing EPA and DHA slightly reduced coronary events and coronary death. (NCCIH)

But I do not recommend typical fish oil as my favorite strategy. I prefer food. In fact, fish oil is not the best source of omega-3s for several reasons.

Wild Salmon Roe is not just “omega-3.” It is a whole food. Salmon roe contains EPA and DHA in a phospholipid-rich matrix, and marine phospholipids are especially interesting because phospholipids are central to cell membrane structure and function. Research on roe and marine phospholipids shows that roe can be a rich source of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in phospholipid form. (PMC)

That matters for the heart because the heart is electrical, muscular, vascular, and mitochondrial. Healthy fats are not optional. Your cell membranes are made from fats. Your mitochondrial membranes are made from fats. Your nervous system requires fats. Your body’s inflammatory and resolving pathways depend on fatty acids. Your brain and heart both depend on high-quality nutrition from the ocean.

This is why I love pairing Kickstart My Heart with Wild Salmon Roe. Kickstart My Heart brings the organ nutrition. Wild Salmon Roe brings the marine nutrition. Together, they create the foundation.

Why Not Just Take a Multivitamin?

Because most multivitamins are not food. They are often synthetic, isolated, and incomplete. They may contain a list of vitamins and minerals, but they do not contain the full complexity of real food. It is one reason whole-food, organ-based nutrition works so differently from a capsule of isolates.

Nature packages nutrients with cofactors, peptides, fats, enzymes, minerals, and compounds we have not even fully identified yet. That is the difference between nutrition and supplementation. Nutrition is the body receiving the materials it understands.

That is why I would rather give the body elk organs and wild salmon roe than a synthetic multivitamin full of isolated lab-made ingredients.

My Answer

So, what is the best supplement for your heart? In my opinion, the answer is Kickstart My Heart. It is the foundation because it is real food, organ-based, nutrient-dense, and designed to support the heart from the inside out.

And if you want to take that foundation to the next level, add Wild Salmon Roe. That combination gives you land and sea. Organs and omega-3s. Minerals and phospholipids. Amino acids and fat-soluble nutrition. Mitochondrial support and membrane support.

This is how I think about heart health. Not as a cholesterol problem. Not as a blood pressure problem. Not as a medication deficiency. I see heart health as a nutrition, lifestyle, mitochondrial, vascular, and environmental problem.

And the solution starts with giving the body what it needs to do the job. Start with Eat Well, Live Well, Think Well. Test, don’t guess. Then build the foundation with Kickstart My Heart and Wild Salmon Roe. That is how you nourish the heart for the long game. That is how you build a 100 Year Heart.

About Dr. Lauren Lattanza NMD, FACC

Dr. Lattanza Office Visit with Patient

As a Naturopathic Physician, I am trained to treat the whole person and get to the root cause of disease.

I went to Arizona State University where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a depth in physiology and minor in Spanish. After my undergraduate degree I was working on prerequisite classes towards medical school, which is when I came to learn that my values identified best with the principles of naturopathic medicine. I knew that I wanted to help patients identify the causes of disease and be able to offer treatments which would improve their health rather than simply treating symptoms.

I dedicated the next 4 years to the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona where I attained my Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine. I served as Class President all 4 years, Board of Trustees – Student Trustee, spoke as the Club President for our branch of Toastmasters, and was voted by my peers and attending physicians to earn the Outstanding Leadership Award for the Class of 2020. Throughout medical school I took it upon myself to work alongside MDs, DOs, chiropractors, and functional medicine practitioners in addition to naturopathic physicians.

As a Spanish speaking student, I was able to volunteer with community clinics around Phoenix and provide free healthcare to low-income families. Due to this combined exposure, I came to find my passion in treating cardiometabolic and digestive disorders that are all too common, yet largely preventable. I took the opportunity to learn the broad spectrum of healthcare so I can ensure that I am able to provide my patients with the best options.
